Raleigh, North Carolina: Huge Smokey Bear Statue (Gone)
Over 20 feet tall. His arm and mouth move, and he's equipped to talk about fire prevention. Zombie eyes.

- I-440 exit 3. Drive west on Hillsborough St./Hwy 54, then turn right at the water tower onto Blue Ridge Rd. The Fairgrounds is on the left; Smokey is all the way in the back, in the trees by the lake.

We tried to find him at the Fairgrounds back in September (2012) and the statue was nowhere in sight. None of the employees knew what we were talking about, either.
[Jenny, 12/02/2012]Nov 2010 -- no sign of Smokey anywhere, but there was a weird statue made of orange construction barrels.

Huge Smokey Bear Statue
This is a huge statue of Smokey Bear, fire prevention icon of the US and state forest services. This one is over 20 feet tall, just received new hat, shovel, fur and jeans. Belongs to NC Department of Forestry and is standing in a front yard on NC Highway 273 in Mount Holly, NC, until he makes his appearance at the NC State Fair in mid-October 2006. Parents of a forest ranger own the home and refurbished Smokey as a public service. His right arm and mouth move and he gives fire prevention talks.
