Seattle, Washington - Bridge Troll Crushing VW Bug

The VW bug originally had a California license plate and contained a time-capsule with Elvis memorabilia, but because of vandalism the former was stolen and the latter had to be removed. [Ted Stern, 07/26/1999]

Seattle, Washington - Bridge Troll, Fremont Sights

Having lived in Seattle almost my whole life I know the offbeat attractions quite well.

The greatest collection of the unusual is located in a neighborhood called Fremont. There you will find a gigantic troll located underneath the Hwy 99 bridge. I do not know who the artist was or when it was created, but it has endured a great many years. The troll is made of concrete, and about the size of a small house. In his hand he is crushing a real VW Beetle.

In Fremont you will also find a twenty foot statue of Lenin (I couldn't tell you why). Plus an old rocket mounted to the side of a building that blows smoke every hour as it tries to blast off. The Pacific Science Center just recently moved their life size dinosaur exhibit to Freemont — these dinosaurs are carved from living hedges. Freemont has even more oddities. Just explore who knows what you'll find. [Dblshot956, 07/13/1998]

[RA: The Troll is a great photo op; climb on up! Recall that his one eye is a hubcap. And the Archie McFee novelty warehouse store is in the vicinity.]
