The marker and statue were present and in good shape. What is even more impressive is the animal sanctuary that is located within the same park, just a few hundred feet away.
[Mike D., 08/12/2013]We found the "First White Man Dies in America" marker. We also found, at the same gulfside park, three different Juan Ponce de Leon statues. One sits up on a stone edifice with benches in front of it -- very odd. There were also several other markers noting how Florida was named. Good place to stop and move around during long drive.
Has restrooms, small playground, boardwalk, amazing view of Gulf of Mexico.
