Flaming Lips Alley

Flaming Lips Alley is very near the Riverwalk in Bricktown. If you're a fan of the band, it's cool to see.

Flaming Lips Alley

Yep, it's just an alley in Bricktown. Goes behind a hotel, has a flew clubs nearby. None of the drunks staggering around seemed to even notice it. There's also a Garth Brooks Boulevard in Yukon and an enormous water tank dedicated to Toby Keith in Moore. Oklahoma measures its love for its musicians by what they name after them, I guess.

Flaming Lips Alley

Easy to miss and not much to see. Truly just a dingy alley.

Flaming Lips Alley

The Oklahoma City council recently renamed a grimy, neglected alleyway as "Flaming Lips Alley," after the musical group (whose quirky songs include "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" and "Evil Will Prevail"). Lips leader Wayne Coyne lives in Ok City. The no-name thoroughfare is (we think) north of Bricktown Ballpark, between Central Avenue and the railroad tracks. It was reported by the Associated Press to be littered with open dumpsters, "and is poorly lit at night."

Perhaps this is the spot where Coyne found inspiration for "The Spiderbite Song."

The City Council renamed two other unwanted streets in the vicinity after local music legends Charlie Christian and Vince Gill.
