World's Largest Rubber Band Ball
Steve Milton and his 6-year old son spent a year, starting in November 2005, stretching rubber bands in pursuit of the title of "World's Largest Rubber Band Ball." The Miltons had help in the form of a corporate sponsor -- OfficeMax -- who provided over 175,000 rubber bands of various widths and grades. The final ball was completed in Milton's garage.
In November 2006, OfficeMax paved the way for a Guinness World Records certification of the ball as the largest. It was over 4-tons when weighed in Chicago. Our photo was taken at the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade in November 2006.
Milton's ball snatched the title from John Bain's World's Largest Rubber Band Ball (1998-2006) -- but at least you can stop by for a peek at Bain's ball in Chevy Chase, Maryland. We hope the new reigning ball eventually lands somewhere worshipers can visit.
