Straw Goat On a swing past Swedesburg last April, my anticipation was crushed when I noticed the straw goat was gone. I was informed by one of the Swedesburgians that arsonists had robbed me of my lone opportunity (to date) to see a goat made of straw. Apparently, this was the second time it had happened, but the gentleman had "heard rumors" that the goat was going to be replaced. Imagine my excitement when two weeks ago, on another trip to SE Iowa, I saw that the goat was BACK!
My recommendation: If seeing a straw goat is on your list of things to do before you leave this world, get to Swedesburg before the arsonists come back. [Jeff Hoskinson, 07/06/2008]
Swedesburg Museum and Straw Goat It's not every day you see a giant goat made out of straw, but you can see this one on Hwy 218 in Iowa. There's also a little historical museum in this very quaint little town. I noticed that it has a flood light nearby -- I can only imagine how truly awestruck a passerby would be at seeing this glorious hay sculpture illuminated on the Iowa plains.
