Fortuna, California: Nude Women Art After Camp Trauma

Back in 1999, me and a girlfriend were road-tripping to the redwoods from Eugene, OR. Just south of Eureka near Fortuna, we decided to head up 36, I think. Lots of steep hills... anyway, as we were headed east on the right side of the road I saw a sign for a Free Art Museum. We pulled in and started looking around. This guy came out and started talking with us, showed us around the place.

Some of the paintings were almost childlike images of naked women. He explained that we were the first to stop and visit in about a year, but the last people who had were a group of girls who camped there for a couple of days and started to walk around the place naked. This tripped him out and made him feel like a schoolboy sneaking peeks and so did all these paintings which were nailed up outside.

He had just sold the the land to a guy in his 20s who was a glassblower, who we talked to as well. The guy who had bought the land said that the artist was welcome to continue to stay on the property. The artist offered to let me and my girlfriend camp there but we wanted to find someplace to shower so continued up the road to a "state park" for some pay showers. I wanted to stop and visit with him on the way back down to 101 but my brakes blew out on a hellacious hairpin curve and we managed to make it back using only the E brake to Eureka where there was a VW shop for parts.

Anyways, does anyone have any knowledge of this guy or his truly remarkable roadside museum?
