Pistol-Shaped Building

The pistol-shaped building or former Illinois State Police headquarters is not a nursing home now, we drove by the building over Thanksgiving weekend [2010] and it was still abandoned and looks like it's been that way for a long time. There is a nursing home about a mile down the road.

This [former police headquarters] is now a nursing home. It's hard to tell it's pistol shaped from the road, though curved entry is likely the trigger. Probably best viewed from the air.

Pistol-Shaped Building

The former Illinois State Police District 6 Headquarters was built in 1941; the cops moved out in 2004. An Illinois state senator has proposed transferring ownership of the now-empty building to Livingston County for ten dollars, with the idea that it would be cleaned up and turned into a visitor center and picnic area. Perhaps this relatively-low-firepower structure was the inspiration for today's more deadly buildings.
