Atlanta, Georgia - House III We've noticed this flat house from the road intermittently. I'd angled my neck to try to catch a full glance. We finally stopped and posed in front of the landmark. It was a nice surprise to find out that this sculpture was done by Roy Lichtenstein, an artist that I respect and admire because he was an advocate for clean, modern design.
In the early 1980's, Lichtenstein created scupltures constructed from flat shapes as three-dimensional graphic imitations of German Expressionist woodcuts, like House III. He passed away in 1997.
The structure at the High Museum is a bit of an optical illusion. It is primarily two-sided, with a front and back that bend at angles to give the impression that it is a more solid four-sided piece. [Jill V., 07/20/2007]
