Westport, Washington - Lighthouse Retreating from the Ocean

Grays Harbor Lighthouse is Washington state's tallest. This is your standard lighthouse, with trips up to the top, but what's interesting about it is that it used to be only a few hundred feet from the breaking surf, and now, due to accretion, is almost a mile from the high tide line. Tours are given on a daily basis by the local Westport-South Beach Historical Society.

Also known as the Westport Lighthouse. [Brook Priest, 07/23/2007]

[RA: We'll see what Global Warming has to say about that. Note: This tip doesn't open the, ahem, flood gates for postings about standard lighthouses!]
