[Nancy Butler, 03/17/2002]Giant Amish Man - New Home
The giant Amish man, resident of Dover for many years, now resides at Shirey's Auto Sales just north of Milford on Del 1. From the Delaware State News: When the owners of the now-defunct Dutch Pantry liquidated their stock, said Shirey's manager Jim Burke, Shirey's owner William Shirey Jr. decided the smiling fiberglass gent needed a change of scenery and profession.
Mr. Burke provided vital statistics for the new salesman he calls "The Big Man." The Big Man is 20 feet tall and weighs in at 400 pounds. He's composed of fiberglass molded onto a hollow steel frame.
When he first arrived at Shirey's, the giant Amish man was in need of some TLC. He had not been painted in some time, said Mr. Burke. He was subsequently repainted with his original colors and stabilized in three feet of concrete.
