Before there was 9/11 there was 911. The first 911 call in history was made in Haleyville in February 16, 1968, on an old, red, rotary dial phone. Historical marker.

A historical marker about the first 911 call is located along the sidewalk in front of CVS, 1901 11th Ave, southeast corner at 20th St.

They've since torn down the original City Hall building and replaced it with a CVS. However, there's still a sign right outside of the CVS that commemorates the occasion!

Signs leading into Haleyville, Alabama announce that this is the Home of 911. If you go to the Haleyville City Hall you will find the original red telephone used to make that first famous emergency call.
