We live in Omaha and I had never heard of this attraction, so last Saturday we rounded up the kids and went downtown to find it. The mental hospital is now part of Grace University, and there is a fair amount of construction around the grotto. It is still there, but you cannot go inside (at least for now); there is a locked door at the entrance. It was still interesting to see it. We plan to try again some time and see if we can get inside, since we live literally ten minutes away.

The grotto is still there. It is really neat to see. You can go inside, as I was told it is open to the public. However, was told there is no longer electricity inside, therefore you may want to bring a flashlight with you even during the day. 24/7 although kinda creepy at night.

The old St. Joseph's Hospital at 10th and Dorcas Streets has a funky walk-in rock grotto nestled between the mental hospital and a parking lot. Not on the official Chamber of Commerce tour.
