Vancouver Centennial Rocket Ship

A bronze and stainless steel sculpture of a pulp Science Fiction Golden Age rocket ship is angled on a steel wedge in Vancouver's Cambie Street Plaza. The 12-ft. long spaceship is based on a design for a parade float used in 1936; it survived on display at the Vancouver Air Terminal until 1972, when rust did it it. This more corrosion-resistant replica was created in 1985 by the local sheet metal workers union, unveiled in 1986 for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Vancouver.
