The Big Oak, 2023.

The Big Oak

There is a complex system of cables and wood supports to hold up the huge branches. Plenty of adjacent street parking if you want to stop to get a close look.

The Big Oak - 328+ Years Old

The Big Oak is still going strong -- but if you visit in an RV be aware that the limbs have overgrown the road. Clearance is only 9.5 feet, and the warning signs are too late for you to do anything about it.

[Rustin LaFurney, 11/24/2021]

Fortunately The Big Oak is on a street corner in town, so RVs can maneuver onto the cross-street to avoid collision.

Tree is amazing (if you're into these types of things, and we obviously are)! They've installed a camera across the street. Stand in front of the tree, and call a phone number (it's on the pamphlets at the tree) and your photo will be taken and you can download it from the website.

The Big Oak - 326 Years Old

Located in the historic town of Thomasville, GA is a huge, live oak tree that is approximately 326 years old. Of course, this would make it a witness to the Revolutionary War! The tree is quite grand, has a 24 foot circumference and is so impressive that President Eisenhower personally took its photograph.

The town's historic commission has worked hard to preserve this wonderful witness to history!

[John Holmes, 04/02/2008]

Big old trees get applause simply for surviving the encroachment of civilization and the odd lightning bolt.
