Fermont, Quebec - Fermont Wall - Wind Barrier "Le mur" ("The wall") is a unique architectural concept in North America. It is 1,3 km long, 50 meters high and it contains all the community services you can imagine: indoor pool, shopping center, town hall, skating rink, bowling alleys, gym, hotel, bars, police dept, primary and high schools, a fully equipped hospital, apartments you name it! The wall is located on the north side of the city to serve as a wind screen. It is shaped in a half moon pattern that surrounds the houses and other buildings that are "outside" of the wall.
Because of its wideness, the shape of the wall is better seen from top of Mt Daviault which is located on the south side of the town.
Fermont is also famous for its northern lights (aurora borealis) and its iron mine. [Genevieve, 04/25/2008]
