Amidon, North Dakota: Fake Cop

The postage stamp-sized town of Amidon makes speeders swallow their tongues when they spot an old police cruiser and a cop mannequin.

I recently drove through the town. The old cop car was gone for awhile and did get busted up. But it's been replaced with a newer model. It has moved down the road a little as well, but it is back on duty!

Fake Cop - Retired?

We drove through this town twice on our way to and from Theodore Roosevelt National Park and didn't see this "officer." Perhaps he finally retired or found a better job.

Fake Cop

It looked like someone had broken the driver's side front window on the police car. There was no police officer visible. Maybe he was chasing whoever broke the window, or maybe someone stole the dummy.

Fake Cop - On the Lookout

The Amidon fake police officer remained ever-vigilant for speeders when we passed through. We slowed so as not to disturb him.

Sleeping Cop

Passing through we noticed this old cop car with what appears to be a puppet in the driver's seat. We thought maybe this was a deterrent for speeders from out of town or possibly just a town joke.
