JFK Bomb Shelter on Peanut Island The President's bomb shelter was built by the SeaBees [Construction Battalion] under the direction of the Secret Service. Peanut Island is very near the Kennedy Compound in Palm Beach and the bunker was a nuclear war contingency facility during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It is a stark reminder of the Cold War at its peak, and our military past is certainly relevant today! [P Qualter, 06/08/2008]
