Carlsbad, California - Full Size Windmill We were in Carlsbad visiting the beautiful poppy fields when we found this strange building across the street. It seems to be attached a Holiday Inn and a restaurant. Unfortunately, the blades were not turning when we visited...not sure if they still work or not. Carlsbad, California - Full Size Windmill Towering over the freeway at the Palomar Airport exit on I-5, stands a full size windmill with blades that actually turn. This was originally one of the former Pea Soup Anderson's "chain" of restaurants (I think there's one other up south of Fresno). It now houses a banquet facility and is the entrance for a TGIFridays restaurant. It's also part of a Holiday Inn hotel complex.
Nearby are the Carlsbad flower fields, which are something to see in the Spring when in bloom. [Jay Kirby, 07/08/2008]
