North Hollywood, California - Carpeteria Genie

[RA: We had several reports in the past that this Carpeteria Genie had vanished (as genies are prone to do) but there may have been confusion with another genie.]

Noticed the entry about the Carpeteria Genie and thought I'd swing by on my way home from work to see if he was still there. Sure enough, towering high above the showroom, he is still there, and fittingly, still hawking carpets, though no longer for Carpeteria. I went by at night, and there are no lights on him, making him a little hard to see, but if you look for the bright carpet warehouse, then look up, you'll see him watching you. I'm sure that there is one of these in North Hollywood. It's on Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Hart St. between Sherman Way and Vanowen. Have you guys seen these genies? They used to scare the hell out of me as a kid. They have two faces (Actually they are two sided). As you drive by you see the giant, evil and swarthy genie face looking at you. Then after you drive by you turn around and It's still looking at you! Creepy!

Maybe It's the way he's holding a huge roll of carpet over his head... Waiting to crush you as drive by. Okay, trust me -- when you're 5 years old, it's scary. Now I could probably kick his fiberglass ass. [Che, 09/03/1997]
