Golden Buddha
We always enjoyed seeing the Buddha when traveling from Virginia to New Jersey for the holidays. It's sad that it is now gone.
[Chris, 01/01/2016]Was just at San-Lin Chinese Restaurant and Big Golden Buddha is no longer here. Restaurant is closed down.
[Kathy Booher, 05/29/2014]Golden Buddha
Would like to stop for food sometime, but the Buddha itself is fantastic. People leave items for good wishes and such.
[Anthony B, 04/28/2014]Golden Buddha
As of November 2006, the big golden Buddha is still smiling at passersby in front of the San Lin restaurant on US Route 40 in Elkton MD. It has been restored and sits facing the highway for all to enjoy.
[Mark Jonas, 11/22/2006]The Golden Buddha statue was placed in front of the Chinese restaurant next to the Desert Storm Muffler Man in 1990. It was moved to the San Lin East chinese restaurant outside of Elkton in 1999, where it was vandalized a number of times, then torched a few months later (that was a sad day, as it really became something to expect on a ride through the county). It sat in a Harford County auto-body repair shop for three years where the place did a half-hearted job at repair, then another auto body shop in Havre de Grace took it and finished the repairs for free.
It is 8 feet tall and about 1,000 pounds and I can say, from personal experience having grown up near there and seeing it first-hand, it is a pretty imposing fat, happy man.
