Crystal Falls, Michigan - Humungus Fungus

The Humungus Fungus is the world's largest organism, according to Crystal Falls. Since the fungus there has been classified as such, Crystal Falls has had an annual festival to celebrate it. Other, larger, fungi have been discovered since but the town still claims to have the larges organism on the planet right there in Crystal Falls. There's not much else going on in the town. [RA: It was the "World's Largest Living Thing," then one 40 times larger was found near Mt. Adams, WA, though it was disputed whether that's one organism. Crystal Falls seems to be the only place putting promotional muscle into the claim to make it a tourist destination! But maybe not too much muscle -- there's no museum or gift shop, though there might be t-shirts at the Ben Franklin store in town. Sez someone who answered to phone at town hall: "There's a sign that says, 'Home of the humongous fungus' or something like that as you leave town and enter Mastadon Township on US 2, south of Crystal Falls. It's just a small highway sign, nothing big."]
