The people of Bryant Pond were the last in the U.S. to use hand-cranked telephones. And they celebrated it on October 13, 2008 by unveiling a 14-foot-tall, jet black candlestick phone with a big crank.

An enjoyable oddity. There is a parking lot where you can park and get out to take photos. It was interesting to learn that this style phone was used until 1983 in this town.

Giant phone.

World's Largest Telephone

I visited this telephone yesterday. It is right next to the post office. Five miles up the road, on the same side of the road, is a giant rolling pin.

The rolling pin is in fact a giant dowel, in front of a former dowel mill. The two do look a lot alike.
