Superman stands in downtown Metropolis Illinois. The town has adopted him and has several Superman and comic related events every year. There is a Superman Museum and the Americana Museum in town. Great place to visit!

Stopped in on the way from Nashville to St Louis. Everything was still in fine shape and the town was nice. Very helpful staff at the gift store nearby.
[Damien, 07/20/2007]The historic Superman water tower that stands near town hall in Metropolis is scheduled for demolition on January 6, 2003, unless someone can change the minds of city officials. Newer water supply technology has made the tower obsolete, the town can no longer afford the annual maintenance costs, and hope to make way for revitalization of downtown.
