Presidio Pet Cemetery
The beloved military pet cemetery is well protected during the construction of a new highway overpass with completion in 2016. Currently overgrown and surrounded by temporary fencing, the construction team has created a dedicated viewing area on one side for visitors due to its popularity.
[Kim Wheeler, 07/05/2014]At the San Francisco Presidio, formerly an army base and now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, there is an old Pet Cemetery, located on a slight hillside directly underneath the Highway 101 overpass that came off the Golden Gate Bridge. Specifically, it's on McDowell Avenue at Crissy Field Avenue, just north of the cavalry stables, and the easiest way to get to it is west on Lincoln Avenue from the Main Post area. The cemetery is tucked away in an unlikely location, but once you get to it, you can't miss it. There is a large "Pet Cemetery" sign out in front, and a couple hundred doggie and kittie graves.
