On the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, you will find the very interesting outdoor sculpture, "The Committee." It's 12-feet tall and 16 across and has four figures made of fabricated steel. The artist, Albert LaVergne, has been a member of the WMU School of Art faculty since 1990.
"The Committee" was called to order on this site in 1999 after a year and a half of working to complete. Some research was needed to discover the name and information on the piece since the plaque was missing (it has since been replaced). Until we learned the real name, we always referred to it as "Face Full of Crotch." Even now that we know better, we still usually do. It's especially intriguing when covered with snow, which in West Michigan is pretty often.
In the distance is what looks to be a crashed Sputnik satellite. Also nearby is what seems to be a giant slice of a bagel made of slate up on a stand. Ahhh... modern art.
