Freddy's pop music stardom began and ended in 1975, but his fame in this part of Texas lasted for decades. The Hollywood Walk of Fame star on his grave saves you a separate trip west.

I went to the Memorial and also found a Freddy Fender Museum. It is housed in San Benito with two other museums. I was there on a Saturday and the tour was given by Freddie's brother, Jose. It was most informative and I found Jose to be charming and knowledgeable. I would recommend a stop at the museum for any Freddy Fender fan.

Freddy "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" Fender had a music career that spanned 50 years. His museum displays many one-of-a-kind items, including two of Freddy's gold records, his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and a jar of his home-made picante sauce.

Freddy Fender's hometown of San Benito has honored his final resting place with a new memorial. The new cemetery named San Benito Memorial Park was dedicated on June 6, 2009.
