Amarillo, Texas: Guardian of the Arts

13-foot-tall statue serves as a time capsule of Amarillo art from the year 2009. It vaguely resembles the late Hunter Ingalls, who wrote an arts column for Amarillo's newspaper.

This is cute. The building has been demolished and the statue moved, so pull further into the parking lot to see it in the statue garden.

The building behind the Guardian has been demolished and the statue is no longer there. It has been moved to where all the other statues are.

This piece of artwork is part of an outdoor collection at Sunset mall. It's a time capsule that contains art from today, and will be opened in the future. I've always loved time capsules, watching them get opened.

Amarillo is truly a treasure trove of art, if you get a chance stop by and check out the art at Sunset Center.

Guardian of the Arts

A 13-foot statue called "Guardian of the Arts" is to be a time capsule for Amarillo Art 2009 at the end of Summer 2009. Built out of steel, it features an inside chamber that will contain the art.

This was just erected June 1st, 2009. Built by artist David Alan Corbin.

It looks like a scarecrow, but that might frighten away vandals until its scheduled opening in the future.
