Birthplace of Denim Jeans In North Virginia Street, opposite Harrah's, is a plaque proclaiming that it is the location of Jacob Davis's Tailor Shop where, in 1871, Jacob hit upon the idea of using copper rivets to strengthen the work pants he made using denim from Levi Strauss and Co. of San Francisco.
He later formed a partnership with Levi Strauss and 'the American fashion icon Levi's jeans was born'.
