Freeport, Illinois - Tower of Plates

In 1859, Freeport businessman Charles Henry Little opened a china store. Eight years later, he moved across the street. Hoping to be noticed, he built a pillar of plates.

The building has been sold several times...the plates have lasted the test of time. Different plates of course, BUT...Little's initial idea has remained in tact.

Not a great tourist attraction, but definitely worth a look if you are traveling across Illinois on Highway 20 through Freeport. [Bellodome, 09/23/2000]
