Sleep in a Cotton Picker's Shack

Well worn but comfortable shacks. Nice setting and friendly manager. Great way to make one think about how some people live and how many lived in the past. Good to combine with a trip to the nearby BB King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center to learn about his and many other sharecropper's lives.

Sleep in a Cotton Picker's Shack

Tallahatchie Flats is lots of fun. The shacks themselves are all you would want them to be, and there's even a big patch of cotton grown on site "for the tourists to see" as the owner told us. We were also invited to pick and take home as much cotton as we'd like as a souvenir.

Don't miss a trip down to the river behind the shacks, and if you're lucky, the on-site tavern will be open and have live music during your stay.

Sleep in a Cotton Picker's Shack

Six rickety cotton picker shacks have been been assembled on a Mississippi Delta cotton plantation as an odd out-of-the-way motel. They've all been updated with plumbing and air-conditioning, but you'd better hope that it doesn't rain on the tin roofs while you're trying to sleep.

"Tallahatchie Flats" is the vision of local businessman Steve LaVere, who insists that it's possible that blues legend Robert Johnson died in one of these shacks. That is, if you don't believe those who insist that he died on a street corner in nearby Greenwood.
