Abandoned Amusement Park - Razed

Sadly, this site has been razed. A trip past the "private property" sign over the weed infested old blacktop parking lot only yields a pile of scrap metal (perhaps from the rollercoaster?) and the aftermath of a fire that apparently destroyed everything else. The remains of a wooden roller coaster at old Lincoln Park in Dartmouth, MA is a much more satisfying vision and expedition. [Cathleen O'Connell, 08/24/2002]

Abandoned Amusement Park - Mountain Park

This is the remains of the once thriving Mountain Park, a mid sized New England amusement park that sprang up in the early part of the century. The park closed sometime in the mid '80s, but has yet to tear down many of the structures that housed the rides. There have been many fires to a lot of the structures, but the famous "midway" is still in good shape. It's a very spooky trip walking around this apocalyptic landscape, complete with graffiti, weeds, and used paint balls. You can still walk into the structure that housed the classic merry-go-round, which was salvaged and placed in Holyoke's Heritage State Park located downtown.

You can also walk through an overgrown miniature golf course, see the collapsed roof of the bumper car structure and much more. The area is mostly populated by reckless teenagers looking to improve their graffiti skills and get toasted, but during the day, (I would never go there at night. Too scary.) you can pretend you are the only survivor after a nuclear attack from a third world despot. [Jeremy Smith, 09/23/2000]
