Paul Bunyan Welcomes You Paul Bunyan located on Route 2. Use to be at Puiias Hardware store, but "walked" over across the street on a cement slab welcoming people to our Information Center. Many people enjoy taking pictures and standing on his large black laced boots, he has the blue jeans and a red button up shirt. His axe is held neatly and has been recently repainted. The town of Rumford needed to buy a new axe, as a group of college students I believe managed to kidnap the previous axe and a flag was put in its place for a while!
Stop by on your next trip to Maine at our information center, view an Edmund Muskie Memorial, iron Indian statues, and Rumford "Penacook" Falls, Tallest Falls east of the Niagara with a drop of 180 ft.

Muffler Man - Paul Bunyan Paul Bunyan is back after a complete overhaul. Mr Bunyan had a complete makeover at the hands of J. Eugene Boivin of Rumford. Part of the makeover includes a new paint job, a new ax and internal steel supports which are secured to a six foot tall block of concrete. The supports were secured from the inside by workers who had to climb out of the neck before the head was attached. Previously he was supported by wires attached to a building. Mr. Bunyan is illuminated by parking lot lights and quite secure. He is now the property of the Town of Rumford and stands at the foot of Falls Hill on Route 2 next to the Chamber of Commerce information booth, which is designed to look like a grist mill with working water wheel. Also on the site is a memorial to Ed Muskie, who was born in Rumford, and the highest waterfalls east of Niagara. The location is just a few yards from his previous location in front of the former Puiia Home Center.
[Kevin Saisi, 08/24/2002]18 ft. tall muffler man. I worked at Puiia's Home Center, site of the statue. Unfortunately, the company went out of business, and the statue was donated to the town of Rumford. It was later removed, and will be replaced sometimes this spring. It will have an axe in it's hand, as it did originally before it was stolen
