Highlands, North Carolina - Bridal Veil Falls The boulder that was blocking the road has been finally removed. You can once again drive behind the falls and not get your car wet. The big boulder fell from up above the falls several years ago, and blocked the road. The Forestry Service did not have enough money to remove it, so there it sat until a local builder volunteered to come in and blow it up into smaller pieces. They were then able to truck the smaller pieces away.
I've been visiting that beautiful area for the last 45 years and I'm glad to see open again. By the way, be sure to ask the locals about the bear encounter at the top of Bridal Veil Falls. [Gary, 11/12/2009]
Highlands, North Carolina - Bridal Veil Falls Visited over Labor Day weekend with a group of Mini Coopers. The drive was open so we could get behind the falls. Very unique and beautiful spot to visit. [Jeff Causey, 09/07/2008][RA: Look at all those Mini Coopers driving under the waterfall.]
Cashiers, North Carolina - Bridal Veil Falls We were in the area and visited Bridal Veil falls. They have closed the drive-through, but you can still walk under it! [Tara Humphrey, 04/14/2008]
Highlands - Cashiers, North Carolina - Bridal Veil Falls The drive-through road is open again. This fall is actually in Highlands, not Cashiers. [John, 02/21/2008]
Cashiers near Franklin, North Carolina - Bridal Vail Falls drive-thru collapses In 2003, the large overhang of the drive-thru falls dislodged and fell off. This is one huge chunk of rock, I am guessing, 12 tall and 40 feet long. This has closed the circular drive under the falls. But the garnets are plentiful from the smaller pieces of rock that fell. I just gathered a bunch in August.
