During World War II, the Farragut Naval Training Station was a major training base of the U.S. Navy, even a POW camp that housed Germans. Now the Acoustic Research Center tests Navy submarines and surface ships by running scale models in the exceptionally deep waters of Lake Pend Oreille. Farragut Park has a small museum at their brig.
The town of Bayview is located right next to Farragut State Park, about thirty miles north of Coeur d'Alene off Hwy 95. [LB, 08/13/2010]
