Informative museum with artifacts covering all eras of American combat. Hold a section of the wooden boom from Admiral Farragut's Flagship from the Battle of Mobile Bay. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
[Gan Nunnally, 08/12/2020]A secure inland naval training center -- Farragut State Park is five miles east of Athol, Kootenai County in northern Idaho.
During World War II, the Farragut Naval Training Station was a major training base of the U.S. Navy, even a POW camp that housed Germans. Now the Acoustic Research Center tests Navy submarines and surface ships by running scale models in the exceptionally deep waters of Lake Pend Oreille. Farragut Park has a small museum at their brig.
The town of Bayview is located right next to Farragut State Park, about thirty miles north of Coeur d'Alene off Hwy 95.
