The Mystery Spot, a Santa Cruz, CA institution of baffled gravity, still boasts 45 minute weekend waits as of mid-October. The gift shop is packed, and the guides, dressed as if they were national park rangers, have their hands full. Eastern Hemisphere engineers and their families seem to be in greatest abundance. Given the weak state of business in Silicon Valley, perhaps they are looking to harness whatever it is that impels a ball to roll up and to the right, and apply it to their own company's sales charts.

At the same time, according to an employee at the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot, three longtime guides have had to retire from Spot tours recently, because "their knees gave out."
