Shoe Tree
The Legendary Shoe Tree is a famous attraction in Crawford County. Many people come each year to ornament the tree with another pair of shoes, and it is even said that former Boston Celtic Larry Bird's basketball shoes hang from this tree.
[John Beasley, 10/25/2003]An old, nearly dead tree outside of Milltown, Indiana. The legend is that good luck will come to those who throw an old pair of shoes into the tree. I do not know how long this has been around, but from the size of the tree and the age of some of the shoes, it has been quite a while. It is such a part of the area that the road it is on has been named "Shoe Tree Road." I was quite impressed on my first visit -- now my children ask to go each time we are nearby.
[Kent Hacker, 03/11/2001]Shoe Tree in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of pairs of shoes, sneakers, boots hanging on it. It is said that a pair of Larry Bird's sneakers are there. Wish I had brought a camera.

Keep driving south, till you reach a point in the road where you can't figure out what to do (straight ahead and to the right are gravel roads, left is paved).
