Statue of the Bird Girl

The popularity of this statue, seen on the bestselling "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" book cover, forced its removal from Bonaventure Cemetery. Now Bird Girl is indoors, and you have to pay to see her.

Statue of the Bird Girl.

Bird Girl Statue

The Bird Girl statue is owned by the Telfair Museums, so it is sometimes moved to one of their indoor venues. It currently stands in the Telfair Academy at 121 Barnard Street. The exhibit room for the statue tells its history in relation to the cemetery where it originally stood. Photos are allowed. Admission gives access to all three of the Telfair Museums in Savanna, including the Jepson Museum (contemporary art) and the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters (historic house).

This is in a museum with a $12 entrance fee. I wasn't impressed. There was a sign that said no photos were allowed.
