Dog Land.

Dog Land

I'm looking for information, descriptions, recollections etc. on some defunct tourist traps that existed on U.S. 19 south of Perry, Florida back in the pre-Disney, pre-interstate days. Dogland - I found the hulk of the building for the attraction once touted as the world's largest collection of pedigrees and a Kentucky Fried chicken in the gift shop. The guy there would not let me look at the hundreds of rusting kennels in the back overgrown with weeds.

[Bob Cara, 10/31/1997]

July 2008: Will Shetterly checked in -- "My parents' tourist attraction. We had over 100 breeds on display." Long closed, but Will was inspired to write the novel "Dogland" about a family who opens a tourist attraction in Florida.
