Fort Bragg, North Carolina - Special Forces Museum and Statue I made the trip down to Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg to
check out the remains of Barney the Bear. I guess I don't need to tell
you how upset I was to find the museum closed from 12/24/2000 - 1/2/2001 -
with *no mention of this on the museum phone recording*. Oh well, I did
get the GPS coords for the building.
It wasn't all lost though; there is a new (made in 1999) statue next to the museum to honor 'the special forces soldiers killed in action'. It is about 20 feet tall and very impressive in terms of detail. The statue appears to be hollow and made out of bronze.
The really neat thing is if you stand in front of the statue, it appears to be pointing at you, and you can just imagine him saying "here you go boys, let's kill some people starting with this one". The statue is a depiction of Colonel Arthur D. "Bull" Simons. [Greg Brown, 01/07/2001]
