Reed Gold Mine This is the location of the first documented commercial gold find in the US. I loved everything about this place. The workers were extremely friendly, the museum was educational and fun. You could tour the caverns and trails with a trusty map as your guide, and best of all, it was free. After you were done exploring, you could pay 2 dollars and get a pan of dirt where a very authentic man (overalls, bushy mountain man beard, drinking tea from a mason jar), showed us how to pan for gold.
