Venice Canal Historic Distric
It's quiet and peaceful walking through the canals. Homeless camps surround the canals unfortunately, so be on the lookout. Park at the boardwalk and take the short walk over.
[Jackson, 06/20/2022]Venice Canal Historic District
Built in 1905, the Venice Canals mimic the look and feel of Venice, Italy in Southern California. By 1929, most of the canals were filled in to create roads. The remaining canals were renovated and the Canal District is currently an expensive and desirable neighborhood to live in. The canals are lined with beautiful homes, bridges, and rowboats.
The neighborhood is bounded by Venice Blvd, Pacific Ave, Washington Blvd, and Ocean Ave. Paid parking can be found along Venice Blvd and Venice Beach Boardwalk. Free parking can be found in the surrounding neighborhoods but can be tough on the weekends and summer. If you happen to be at Venice Beach and walking on the Venice Boardwalk, it's only a few minutes walk to the Venice Canals. Walk east on South Venice Blvd until you see the canal. Entrance will be on your right.
[L. Quinto, 10/29/2011]Early 20th-cen. attempt by Abbott Kinney to replicate the original Italian canals. Many of his canals remain, on which have been built an incredibly eclectic assortment of houses. Ducks add to the peaceful ambience.
