Yermo, California - Peggy Sue's Diner and Dinosaur Park The perfect midway pit stop between LA and Vegas – Peggy Sue's '50s Diner is a true gem along part of Historic Route 66. Originally built in 1954, Peggy Sue and her husband Champ brought it back to life in 1987. Peggy Sue was a celebrity featured in over 100 films and commercials and even had a song written about her ("Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly and The Crickets), and Champ worked at Knotts Berry Farm before they decided to bring a taste of Hollywood to Yermo, California.
The diner serves food named after famous stars of the 50s such as The Patty Page patty melt and The James Dean fries (smothered in gravy). Also listed on the menu are various themed burgers named after John Wayne, La Bamba, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly and Chubby Checker.
On display is Peggy Sue's extensive memorabilia collection. The entire location includes the diner, a '50s dime store, an ice cream parlor, a soda fountain and a pizza parlor. There's also a park outside with a stage and sitting area that showcases eccentric metal sculptures of dinosaurs and other animals. The staff are in character and even the pond’s ducks have Elvis-inspired hairdos. [Taryn Bays, 07/28/2009]
