Houston, Texas: Giant Cellist - Virtuoso

Sculptor David Adickes -- of giant Presidents head and Beatles fame -- made "Virtuoso," a 36 ft. tall cellist, made in 1988. Actually, it's mostly a cello, augmented by Virtuoso's attached heads and hands. Step behind it and you'll see three smaller musicians.

In addition to the big statues of the Beatles, that same artist created a 36 ft. tall cellist named "Virtuoso" in front of the Lyric Center.

Virtuoso was David Adickes' first attempt at a large scale concrete sculpture, back in the 1980s. The rest of the quartet, closer to life-size musicians, stand behind the big cello.
