Tucumcari, New Mexico: Irrigation Pipe Cactus (Gone)

Twenty feet tall, made of aluminum. Knocked down in 2011. In 2014, still just pipe stump.

Directions:
I-40 exit 339. Drive south and turn west onto Route 66. Drive one mile, turn right and go under the freeway, then turn left and continue west along the frontage road on the north side. The cactus will be on the right.

Sept. 2011: Cactus knocked down.

The cactus is broken, and laying in front of about 5 feet of what used to be the base of the stem. The large flower next to it is still standing.

Take exit 338 to the access road if you want to get up close. The site is red clay, so I wouldn't suggest driving past the gate if it's wet. After your visit the access takes you back towards Tucumari.
