We had a very enjoyable time in Juliette Ga. We had fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe -- they were very good! Our family has always fixed our green tomatoes in flour, so they were just like grandma's and mine or better. We wanted to see the place where the movie was filmed and we did. Everyone was very happy to help us with directions and stories from when all the actors were there.
[Sam Stalford, 01/26/2007]A quaint town with all the memories of the movie, Fried Green Tomatoes, the Whistle Stop Cafe, the train station with a real train that runs through, the church, cemetery with two graves marked with the names of Buddy Threadgood and Ruth Jamison, a grave by the hickory pit that bears the reading of: Here lies Frank Bennet of Valdosta "The secret was in the sauce" and here!
Also the Dew Drop Inn where it cost my husband $14 for a 27 picture disposable camera (on the other end of town it was $6.99). The people are all pretty friendly and during Memorial Day weekend it was quite busy. We had to wait 45 minutes to eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe (there are two other cafes in the town). Everything is southern at the cafe but the Fried Green Tomatoes were disappointing. They drenched them in flour instead of cornmeal. Other than that, it was a nice visit.
[Teresa Barclay, 07/18/2006]The Original Whistle Stop is in Alabama and not worth the side trip off the interstate. I went there and had very cold, very uneventful fried green tomatoes. If you want to see the location the producers of the film used it is here in Juliette, Georgia and has much better ambience than the dive in Alabama.
[Mike, 05/22/2004]"Whistle Stop Cafe" in Georgia: Not !! They may have filmed the movie at a picturesque cafe in Juliette, but the real Whistle Stop is in Irondale, Alabama ... home to Miss Fannie Flagg herself!
[Julie Bell, 09/30/1999]The town of Juliette is home of the real Whistle Stop Cafe from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes", a dish that is on the cafe's menu. The town is incredibly small, a train does run through it. The cafe is owned and operated by a local family and serves truly Southern dishes. Located in Jones County (I-75 exit 60). The Jarrell Plantation, a late 1800 plantation that is open to the public is nearby.
