[Perfect Pair, 07/06/2013]Rare WWI Made-in-the-USA Cannon
US Army Model of 1906 4.7" Medium Field Gun, made in 1918. This is an excellent example of the only cannon used by our doughboys during WWI that was actually made here in the USA. All other artillery we used was of French manufacture. These bad boys saw action at St. Mihiel, Marbache and the Muese-Argonne Offensive. The gun portion was made by the Northwest Ordnance Co. while the carriage and rubber coated wooden wheels were produced by Studebaker. Upon arrival in France these guns were rechambered to 120mm to make the supply of ammuntion easier.
These are pretty rare as only 200 were produced. While needing a good camouflage paint job instead of the gray...at 94 years young this soldier deserves a visit.
