A long-abandoned store had a giant green hand painted across its front. Its crude cartoon fingers reached out and shook us until we added it to Roadside America. True story.

I grew up in this town and currently live near the 2nd Hand Shop. I drive by it several times a day. I have been watching it slowly fall apart after every heavy wind and rainstorm. The walls have been crumbling and collapsing so you could see the wood frame underneath. It didnt take much work for them to demolish it on Thursday, July 26, 2018. They probably just huffed and puffed and blew it down. It's gone.

I passed by this location and a sign in front says that it has been sold. Does anyone know if it can be saved? I am going to call the township and find out if they know what is the plan for this gorgeous old building -- which should be a museum.

Herman's 2nd Hand Shop was open for years. The Hermans are a local family and the store was like an estate sale gone nuclear. It was always cool to walk through the narrow passages, and the owner was a character. It was cleaned out and presumably sold within the last year. I grew up seeing the store and I hope the new owner won't just bulldoze it down. Like "Tillie" [iconic grinning face of the Jersey Shore], it is part of New Jersey old-times.

Really a good find. Kind of creepy that the building has curtains and furnishings in it ... Even though it has probably not been touched in 20-30 years.
