Shoe Corner

Not an attraction, just an eyesore! No mystery! Just the people who live on the road cleaning up litter! Seriously, people, find something worth looking at!

[M piepho, 03/21/2018]

"Shoe Corner" has been puzzling -- and infuriating -- passers-by for years.

Shoe Corner

At this four-way stop, people have been tossing shoes for years. There are many stories about the origins of Shoe Corner. One of them is that a farmer who lived nearby was poor and had lots of children to feed and clothe.

[mbb81, 02/04/2015]

The shoes are reportedly cleaned out and taken away every single Monday, only to be replaced by a new batch the following week. That takes a lot of dedicated shoe-tossers.

Shoe Corner

Shoes (singles and in pairs) have been mysteriously appearing at this North West Indiana intersection for years. Recently a sign was erected with a message saying that anyone found dropping shoes would be fined. The sign itself disappeared after a short while!

This is not a Shoe Tree -- it's an arbitrary corner of an intersection with a gravel shoulder where drivers toss shoes. We suspect this is cleaned up regularly, so keep your expectations really low....Nov. 2013: Photo added.
