The Shining Hotel - TV Miniseries Stay in room 217! It is the room in which Stephen King stayed, resulting in the conception of "The Shining." Best to book early and request the room. I didn't get to stay in 217, but the people staying in it invited us in for a look.

Stanley Hotel: The Shining Stunning place to visit. Stayed in the hotel for a few nights. I went to the Stanley a couple years ago to meet the guys from TAPS/Ghost Hunters. Wonderful views from the beautiful porch. Cool Stanley Steamer in the lobby. Loved the Stanley Hotel doll house they had on the lower floor.
They do seem to be very proud of their ties to Stephen King and The Shining. They have a channel on their hotel cable that plays The Shining 24 hours a day. No one seems to mention the strange pet cemetery on the grounds. Many neat rock formations to walk around and climb on. Would love to go back.
[Andrea Hughes, 08/13/2012]Went there today, was well worth the trip. It's $15 for the ghost tour. In room 401 my camera quit working in the closet (only possible paranormal activity I experienced). Worked fine everywhere else. Apparently a child named Matthew is said to haunt the room. The bar has The Shining beer you can purchase (3 for $12), plus there's lots of other cool stuff.

Stanley Hotel - The Shining In response to a previous tipster, there is plenty of "Shining" lore to be found at the Stanley Hotel. We just visited August 24, 2008. The gift shop offers some great (if not pricey) 'Shining' things from books, t-shirts, postcards, DVD's, key chains, beer steins, "REDRUM" shot glasses, etc.
Downstairs you will find pictures from when the remake was made in 1996, along with signed mugs from Stephen King, Rebecca Demornay and other cast members. A beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting.
