The Shining (TV miniseries) Hotel

Went there today, was well worth the trip. It's $15 for the ghost tour. In room 401 my camera quit working in the closet (only possible paranormal activity I experienced). Worked fine everywhere else. Apparently a child named Matthew is said to haunt the room. The bar has The Shining beer you can purchase (3 for $12), plus there's lots of other cool stuff. Stanley Hotel. Stanley Hotel - The Shining

In response to a previous tipster, there is plenty of "Shining" lore to be found at the Stanley Hotel. We just visited August 24, 2008. The gift shop offers some great (if not pricey) 'Shining' things from books, t-shirts, postcards, DVD's, key chains, beer steins, "REDRUM" shot glasses, etc.

Downstairs you will find pictures from when the remake was made in 1996, along with signed mugs from Stephen King, Rebecca Demornay and other cast members. A beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting. [Aimee, 08/31/2008]

Stanley Hotel. The Shining Hotel

The Shining Hotel (Stanley Hotel) is a beautiful place to stay. The hotel offers ghost tours for $10 by reservation only. The gift shop/museum sells The Shining books, movies, keys to room 217, and many other interesting things based on The Shining movies and book. [Andrea, 02/12/2007]

The Shining Hotel

Just visited the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. It is beautiful and sits in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Despite comments to the contrary, this Hotel was not used as a filming location for Stanley Kubrick's production of Stephen King's "The Shining." The Hotel's museum indicates the Kubrick version was filmed elsewhere. The 1996 remake, however, was filmed on location at the Stanley. The hotel museum has a few relics from the film production, and the gift shop sells copies of the book, keys to the infamous room 217, and T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. [W Zelenski, 12/25/2004]

[RA: July 2006: Tipster Sara reports "The Stanley no longer promotes 'The Shining.' They have removed all traces of Shining paraphernalia as well as the pictures of all the stars that have stayed there. I guess they do give ghost tours now, but they charge to get in. Also, this hotel was used in the filming of Dumb and Dumber." ]

"The Shining" - Stanley Hotel

This place is amazing! From the views of the Rockies to the charming hotel, I am impressed! This is the hotel "The Shining" was written about! I had a great stay! The place does make strange noises at night, but the staff shared some of their experiences with me! [Jim Gates, 04/08/2001]

[RA: This is the creepy hotel, built in 1909, that "inspired" Stephen King's depiction of the fictional Overlook Hotel. Was used as a set for the TV mini-series (the Kubrick film used the exterior of Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, OR).]
